ISIS has been fortunate to work with members of the
Kaibab Band of Paiutes in Northern Arizona including Danny Bulletts,
Chief of Wildlife and Fisheries. Working for the tribe,
members of ISIS have had the opportunity to do undergraduate research
projects in wildlife science, soils science, health issues from uranium
and nuclear testing, hydrologic conservation, medicinal plants, fire
ecology, re-vegetation and much more! Below are just a few
examples of the great work that is currently being done.
The funding for ISIS has expired. We are
currently seeking funds from a variety of sources, and are open to
suggestions. Please see the Contact ISIS tab if you would like to
contribute or suggest arenas for funding.
- Bats - ISIS conducted the first Bat
inventory on the Paiute reservation. Members have
learned how to catch and handle bats.
- Plants- ISIS conducted post burn vegetation
plots on Moccasin Mountain. ISIS members
learned about random vegetation plots, and plant
identification.
- Personal Health-Medicinal Plants and Uranium and
Nuclear testing on the reservation
- Soil Science - Isotope analysis of soil strata
- Bird Surveys - ISIS conducts
bird surveys in three ecotypes on the Paiute reservation.
ISIS learns about survey transects and bird
identification.
- Mule deer census-ISIS continues an annual Mule
deer census for the tribe.
