MAT 238 Gradebook

MAT 238 Gradebook, Spring 2008

First Grade Summary

Homework Summary 1 for Section 2 and Homework Summary 1 for Section 3. There are 10 possible class points for each assignment, except for the extra credit set 05b, that is worth 2 points. The largest possible score is H1 = 52. The "H1 %" column is H1 as a percent of 50.

Grade Summary 1 for Section 2.
The raw score, "MT1 r", is converted to the scaled score, "MT1 s", by the rule:

MT1 r = n gets converted to MT1 s = 100 + 2.5(n - 29)

Grade Summary 1 for Section 3.
The raw score, "MT1 r", is converted to the scaled score, "MT1 s", by the rule:

MT1 r = n gets converted to MT1 s = 100 + 2.5(n - 30)

Tot 1 is the sum of MT1 s, ecA1 (attendance extra credit), and H1. Your current grade is then Tot 1 as a percentage of 150. This percentage is computed in the column "Tot 1%".

Second Grade Summary

Homework Summary 2 for Section 2 and Homework Summary 2 for Section 3. There are 10 possible class points for each assignment.

Grade Summary 2 for Section 2 and Grade Summary 2 for Section 3
The raw score, "MT2 r", is converted to the scaled score, "MT2 s", by the rule:

MT2 r = n gets converted to MT2 s = 2 n + 18

Tot 2 is the sum of Tot 1, GP1, MT2 s, ecA2 (attendance extra credit), ec o (other extra credit) and H2. Your mid-term grade is then Tot 2 as a percentage of 320. This percentage is computed in the column "Tot 2%".

Third Grade Summary

Homework Summary 3 for Section 2 and Homework Summary 3 for Section 3. There are 10 possible class points for each assignment.

Grade Summary 3 for Section 2 and Grade Summary 3 for Section 3
The raw score, "MT3 r", is converted to the scaled score, "MT3 s", by the rule:

MT3 r = n gets converted to MT3 s = 2.4 n + 13.6

Tot 3 is the sum of Tot 2, one point for being here the day before spring break (3-14), ecA3 (attendance extra credit), MT3 s, other extra credit, and H3. Your current grade is then Tot 3 as a percentage of 480. This percentage is computed in the column "Tot 3%".
Note: The other extra credit includes Focus on Problem Solving, the extra credit on finding the area of the 4-armed region, and Problem of the Week.

Fourth Grade Summary

Grade Summary 4 for Section 2 and Grade Summary 4 for Section 3
The raw score, "MT4 r", is converted to the scaled score, "MT4 s", by the linear function:
MT4 r = n gets converted to MT4 s = 100 + 2.2*(n - 28) = 2.2 n + 38.4
This is more points than scaling I gave in class.
Tot 4 is the sum of Tot 3, ecA4 (attendance extra credit), MT4 s, and 10 points for each of WeBWorK sets 18 and 19. Your current grade is then Tot 4 as a percentage of 600. This percentage is computed in the column "Tot 4%".
The Final Exam is worth 300 class points. I have included three columns indicating the percentage score you need on the Final Exam to get an A, B, or C in the course.

Final Grade Summary

Final Grade Summary for section 2 (10:20) and section 3 (11:30).
I lowered the cutoff for a C.
The raw score on the Final Exam, "FE r", is converted to a percentage score, "FE s", by the rule:
FE s = 100 + 1.2*(FE r - 70) (section 2)
and
FE s = 100 + 1.2*(FE r - 68) (section 3)
This percentage score, "FE s", is then multiplied by 3 and added to your previous total to get the grand total in the class.
I gave a few extra credit points to those who did the Problem of the Week 20. These points are not listed in a column, but are counted in your Total.
