What is High School Math Day?

NAU High School Math Day is an event hosted by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics each fall.  The day is a mixture of friendly competition and mini-seminars presented by our faculty.  We hope to provide an enjoyable day for students and teachers with the following goals in mind:

(1) Show that mathematics is fun and interesting.

(2) Show students and teachers that mathematics is useful beyond the high school classroom.

(3) Encourage students and teachers to pursue further studies in mathematics--perhaps even here at NAU.

Who should attend?

The math day is for  Arizona high school students.  We can accept only the first 250 students who pre-register.

How many students can each school bring?

Since registration is limited to 250 students.  Each school should plan to bring no more than 30 students.  It is also our hope that there would be one adult for every 10 students.

Will lunch be provided?

We have modified our schedule so that all of our events are finished before lunch.  We will provide a midmorning snack of some sort.  After the Math Day events are finished, your group will likely need to eat lunch before heading home.  You may choose to bring sack lunches, eat a a nearby fast food restaurant or visit the food court in the Student Union near Cline Library.

How do I register?

To register online click here.  Be sure to complete the online registration or contact Dorin Dumitraşcu by October 16 to confirm that you will be attending.
